Leafs battle to the final buzzer, falling to Ducks (2) 2-1

In a game that saw some fine defense, good goaltending, an end to end rush or two, solid penalty killing, and a whole lot inbetween, the Leafs faced the third tough opponent in a row, coming up short 2-1 to the Jr Ducks #2 team. Considering we lost to them 11-4 last time, I think they were impressed by us. So to recap, a win, a tie, and two tough losses these past four weeks, and we have seen the quality teams already. Who knew we would get a taste of the playoffs in Oct and Nov? Now all we need to do is sharpen up every area of our game, and work everyone into understanding their roles, and we are gonna be one tough outfit come Feb and March!

The first goal was one where many of us thought a whistle was coming, but the puck stayed loose, and nobody checked or tied up Norris to the side of the net, and he kept bangin' away until he had scored. We can all learn from that one--clear, cover or check, the three C's and you have done your job!

Ducks strike first, #4 doesn't quit or wait for a whistle~

As the second period was scoreless, early in the third, a failed clearing attempt led to a fine deflection and a 2-0 deficit for the Leafs. We were running around a bit, and #10 got behind the D for a sweet tip that was unstoppable, even for our great #32 in net!

Just like that, a deflection makes it a 2 goal lead!

But the Leafs did not give up, and came after the Ducks to know it wasn't over. #71 took the puck and swept in with a gorgeous far-side goal. Notice the local announcer comparing him to a great LA King defenseman..high praise indeed! One goal contest with about 8 mins left--

#71 turns the corner, fakes, and fires--YEAAAHH!

The Leafs were not able to capitalize on a late power play chance, but the Ducks know we are every bit the team they are. Coach Petr will be back at the helm, and with Chris and Kevin, we will head into next week and the Valencia tournament with all the cylinders firing!

(Here are some bonus highlights from each period...just cuz!!)

1st period recap..

Thrills, chills, spills from the 2nd

The third period excitement--consolidated--

Go Leafs--we got them right where we want 'em! Our rearview mirror! Hasta la Vista, Baby--we'll be back!!
